In the months prior to my freshman year of university, I read an assortment of self-help articles and books about ensuring a university experience that is successful. The consensus that is common in everything I read was that studying abroad was among the most enriching and unforgettable experiences that you can have in university.
A couple of years later, following a study experience that is abroad in Paris, France, I quickly saw firsthand how my own time studying abroad shaped and changed me for the higher. There were a multitude of reasons why we made a decision to do so and why you believed by I should too if offered the chance.

1. You’ll gain a new perspective
One of the biggest takeaways from my own experience studying overseas was the ability to see my home country and school through a new lens. Integrating myself into a school system abroad opened my eyes to new perspectives from classmates from around the world. Hearing their interpretations of various events or figures gave me insight into how my country is perceived and how different people approach various situations. It gave me a chance to reflect on myself and my own ways of thinking and how to improve them.
2.You take classes that are unique and wouldn’t be able to take back once again home
Every university has classes that are unique to the college or its location. Learning abroad at an institution that is international you an opportunity to register for classes you otherwise wouldn’t have experienced the chance to take. I capitalized on the occasion to take a modern world history class taught in French for me.
I thought had a thorough understanding of world history, I thought my primary challenge in this course will be learning entirely in French since We currently had exactly what. I was surprised to find that the class material was brand new to my experience. That I’d studied within my history courses back house, and this time, I heard in regards to the events from a European perspective though we were examining the same activities. It was a similar story, just told by way of a narrator that is various.
This served as another concept in regard to the importance of seeing things from others’ points of view.
